What’s all that junk?!

This week’s blog is going to be an eye-opener because I can guarantee that everyone who is reading this blog has experienced this in some sort of way. Maybe not the same exact situation, but maybe in a different situation with the same outcome.

I know many females carry purses or as a woman, you are expected to carry a purse. Well, I’m a little different. To be quite honest, I hate carrying purses or any bags. So, being the tomboy that I am (I know that comes to a surprise to many of you) I carry a backpack. It’s just so much easier. You put it on, you don’t have to worry about it, until you need something, or take it off.

I don’t usually carry much in it, but some daily necessities. I carry a Bible, a notebook, lotion, wallet, charger, chapstick, pens, a granola bar, and keys. So, typically it’s not that heavy.

For those of you who follow me on my social media, know I have been doing a lot of traveling here lately. During this traveling I was buying “snacks” to add to my backpack just in case I was hungry or needed a sugar pick me up during my traveling, classes, or work sessions.

All of a sudden my bag started to feel heavy. I didn’t understand why. I thought to myself I hardly put anything in there. A few days went by and it got heavier. A few days after that my back started to hurt.

Now, I have back issues, so my back can be sensitive sometimes. Either way, sensitive or not, my back was hurting. It was making me feel uncomfortable. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get a massage anytime soon, so I decided to empty out my backpack.

Let me tell you, I started to pull one thing out at a time. Here came snack one, snack two, snack three, four, five and six. Oh, and two water bottles. Don’t judge me!

So, once I emptied all the junk food out of my bag, guess what?! It was light again.

And, the Lord said to me “you see all the junk you were carrying and didn’t even know how it was affecting you. People carry junk and don’t even recognize how much it’s hurting them until the pain starts to inflict them. But, once you took all the junk out, you see that my word (bible) made it light again.”

Y’all I had to repent, and ask the Lord to forgive me for not getting rid of all my junk, and allowing it to bring me pain.

Many of us are carrying junk and don’t even know the true cost, that it’s costing us. If you’re like me I never empty out my bag as you see, I just keep throwing things in. We pack it up until it starts to overflow.

We, and I’m talking to myself as well, have to get better at emptying our “junk” out of our lives. We have to get in the habit, of lightening our loads by His word. Life isn’t meant to carry everything by ourselves.

Scriptures say to give it over to the Lord, it says to “cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:2

It’s time to get rid of the junk you are carrying and give it over to God. We have to make sure that we renew our minds and our spirit in Him. For He is the one who makes our loads light.

We are still in the first month of the year, get rid of all that junk, and make sure you do not carry it any longer. Goodbye Junk!
