Having a secret place in a world of social media

Social media is like a two-edged sword. Society has made social media the new magazine, the new TV show, the new ways of life. People live by what social media says they should live by. It’s like bait to one’s soul.

Social media is so powerful that it has the ability to change someone’s day, it has the ability to break-up relationships, it has the ability to ruin people’s perception, even drive them into depression or suicide. Now, don’t get me wrong it can be used for positive things as well. There are many pages that provide encouragement, it can even build one’s business, and turn someone who was a nobody into somebody overnight.

Social media having such a strong hold on people whether it’s good or bad, we must always remember to have a secret place in the world of social media.

Everyone’s secret place is going to be different. My secret place for social media is Jesus! Spending time with Jesus or in His word more than social media. Now, this always hasn’t been the case.

If I’m not in the word or spending time with Jesus, I can tell that social media can have a negative effect on me more than a positive one. To be totally transparent, one of my greatest dreams is for my God sent husband to find me, start a family, and do Kingdom work together. Now, if I’m not on top of my game, scrolling through social media can really get me sad, or depressed seeing other people get to experience the one thing I desire most.

I know other people’s secret place is taking a break from social media to recharge, regroup, and get their spirit back right. Everyone must have a secret place in the world of social media. Everyone’s secret place is going to be different, but they all have the same common denominator which is to keep their spirit right.

You’re responsible for yourself and your actions. It’s not someone else’s responsibility to protect your soul. Now you should have accountability partners to help keep you on track, but at the end of the day, your soul is your soul, it’s your responsibility.

You are responsible for your soul. You are responsible for your secret place. You are responsible for your well-being. Don’t let social media be the thing that turns you into someone you are not called to be.

God created you to be you. He strategically placed you in your mother’s womb. He knew what He was doing when He created you. There are no mistakes about it. So, let social media be the thing that boosts you to be who God created you to be and not drag you down into someone you were not meant to be.

Make sure to create your secret place, your life and soul depend on it!

  1. This definitely hit home for me lately! Social media can be a drug, something about just scrolling and getting that “hit” high feeling or thinking you are missing out on something when you haven’t checked your social media all day!

I found myself comparing a lot and becoming discouraged when on IG (deleted my FB years ago). Now I know no one really post the bad stuff, its all the good and highs! That was really messing with my head. I needed to step away and learning to get into the word more and not be so consumed by junk!
